Happy Birthday to MJ

Now for the good stuff:

Celtics Win Streak Ends at 10 in Loss to Detroit

[Box Score]

The Celtics win streak ended in Boston, the final game before the All-Star Break as 12.5 home favorites losing by a point to the Pistons. It ended a nine-game run, the best basketball they have played in two seasons; and they have won 11 of 13 games.

Tatum had 22 to go with 7 turnovers, not a stellar night.

Tatum was given his All-Star jersey prior to the game by Jaylen Brown.

In the end it just wasn’t enough. Interesting sidebar, Jayson Tatum spoke to JJ Reddick on his his podcast about being an All-NBA first team snub last season.

Clearly, the snub pissed Tatum off. If he keeps playing like he has this season, he’s going to be in the mix to make an All-NBA first team this season. Brian Windhorst mentioned this on the most recent edition of his podcast, and talked about the Celtics being incredibly solid defensively.

Celtics Destroy Kings by 50-plus in Boston

[Box Score]

It could be said that 23-year old superstar Jayson Tatum is ‘on one’. Consider that Jayson Tatum dropped 51 points the other night in the Celtics victory to get them back to .500 over teh Washington Wizards. Then on Tuesday night at home against the Sacremento Kings, Tatum had 24 by half and 36 to lead all who played with 7 of 14 from the three point line. It was the second largest victory of margin in Boston Celtics franchise history.

And here we are, back in that oh so familiar spot. The Celtics are 25-24 on the year and take on a conference rival in the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night. Jaysoh Tatum and Jaylen Brown appear to be complimenting eachother just fine for the time being, with Brown scoring 30 points on the night.
Really it’s what Boston does from here that matters. It’s the type of spot they have been in where they could use an 8-2 or 7-3 run for the last few years that simply has never come around.

Other notables in the game were Robert Williams and his 13 points, Josh Richardson had 14, and Aaron Nesmith had 10. Tatum didn’t play the entire fourth quarter, and if he would have he probably would have had back-to-back 50 point games. When he gets on one of these scoring streaks where he’s going well, he’s impossible to stop.

Jayson Tatum Drops 51 points in Washington

[Gamebook]

Jayson Tatum did what superstar players do, on the heels of a few slumping performances he answered the bell for the Celtics on the road in a big win over a conference foe. Tatum entered the game on a streak of a lot of missed three pointers, I believe it was 16 to be exact.

On Sunday afternoon, Tatum poured in 51 in Washington while a lot of people were watching football and left the crowd in awe. He began the first half with 31. He went 9 of 14 from the three point range.

Tatum has dropped a few 50 burgers since I started running this blog. This was one of those performances that was a little Kobe-esque. There was a ton of criticism for Tatum on social media lately, maybe more than I’ve ever seen towards Tatum from the Boston fan base.

The Celtics are now back to 24-24 on the season, far from great but if they can put a run together; well we have been saying that for almost two years now. They just need to keep Tatum red hot and let him carry them over the next month or so.

Tatum and Celtics Win in OT 101-99 against Pacers

[Box Score]

All year, this is the type of game the Celtics have found a way to lose. Then, Jayson Tatum tied the game with less than two seconds left to send the Celtics to overtime on the home floor.

Tatum had 24, on 7 of 10 from three point range, and hit the biggest shot of the game. He paired that with 11 rebounds while Jaylen Brown added 26 points and 13 rebounds. Brown continued to add to his peripherals with 6 assists.

It was a game against an opponent that they had to have – getting them to within one game under .500 on the season. They face the Celtics in a rematch on Wednesday evening.

After the game, Tatum declared that he wants to see this thing through with Jaylen Brown which was covered on the Locked on Celtics Podcast I listen to regularly.

If Boston can just get through this rough stretch and get 5-10 games over .500, they have a little framework here at the base of their roster and can make a run this year that makes this a successful season. For about a year and a half now they have been a .500 team. Let’s hope they can make this a turning point.
